Northeast Country Swim Boosters is pleased to announce that the Cliffs Foundation has approved a $5,000 grant request written by NECS to assist in supporting the continued operation of the Babbitt-Embarrass community and surrounding area pool in the local #2142 School District.

It is wonderful to have the support of local and corporate businesses such as Cliffs. Cliffs again has shown its stewardship and partnering with the local area for the benefit of all. The pool provides for healthy activities in our youth and adult populations while allowing for swimming and safety instruction for pool and water rescue needs in the area. This funding may be used for pool area infrastructure maintenance, operations and relevant class offerings. We would again like to thank the Cliffs Foundation for its support of the pool and local educational facility in the Babbitt-Embarrass area in its time of financial need.

About the Cliffs Foundation and Northshore Mining:

http://www.cliffsnaturalresources.com/Development/CommunityRelations/Pages/Cleveland-CliffsFoundation.aspx

The Cliffs Foundation was formed in 1962 for the purpose of making contributions to groups organized and operated exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, literary, or educational purposes and for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals.

The Foundation's major emphasis is on supporting education. This is done through a matching gift program and by direct contributions to educational institutions. These direct contributions are generally for capital drives at institutions serving our communities and scholarships at universities offering degrees in disciplines of interest to the foundation.

Health and human services contributions are directed toward hospital development programs, United Way drives, and agencies serving the less fortunate, again mainly in the foundation's areas of focus.
Cultural organizations such as orchestras, museums, and theater groups as well as civic improvement endeavors are also given consideration.

Northshore Mining Company:

Northshore Mining Company, which originally operated as Reserve Mining Company, was the first taconite processing facility in North America when it opened in 1955. Northshore Mining Company is wholly owned by Cliffs Natural Resources.
