Northeast Country Swim Boosters

We are working on finding ways to assist our school district with the funding of our school and community swimming pools and our girls swimming team which combines the towns of Babbitt, Embarrass, Tower, Soudan and Ely (BETA). If you like to swim, plan activities, have ideas, fundraise or just would like to join the group please contact us. Everyone is welcome. The pools and our girls swimming team are a vital part of the core infrastructure to our rural communities.

WHEREAS: The Babbitt school has had a competitive high school girls’ swim team for over 20 years; and

WHEREAS: The Ely school board (ISD 696) drained and closed its swimming pool in the Spring of 2007, eliminating its girls swim team; and

WHEREAS: ISD 696 and ISD 2142 formed a cooperative agreement for a swim team for girls from Babbitt, Tower and Ely; and

WHEREAS: The BETAs have had two successful years as a combined team and have won the Section 7A Academic Award both years; and

WHEREAS: Swimming builds confidence and is a lifelong activity; extracurricular activities challenge students and have a positive influence on their lives; and,

WHEREAS: ISD 2142 is considering closing the swimming pools at Babbitt, Tower and Cook because of budget concerns; and
